Former Oasis songwriter Noel Gallagher says he'd jump at the chance to write the James Bond theme if asked, keeping the franchise's musical identity rooted in UK talent.
Noel Gallagher says he would jump at the chance to write the theme for the next James Bond film — if asked. Speaking to TalkSport, the former Oasis songwriter made clear he sees it as a matter of pride that those signature songs come from British talent.
Gallagher told the station there has been no approach from the Bond team so far, but he would gladly take the job. He also suggested the franchise’s musical identity should remain rooted in UK artists rather than turned over to American acts.
The comments follow renewed talk that Oasis might be involved. In December, Liam Gallagher responded to a fan on X about the rumours with an enthusiastic message, fuelling speculation. The brothers, after years apart, reunited for last year’s Live 25 run — a 41‑date tour spanning 13 countries — which reminded many that the pair still command a headline-grabbing presence.
Noel has also said he’d be open to a small acting turn — playing a “Mancunian villain” — showing he isn’t limiting his ambitions to the recording studio.
Bond theme songs have been a constant since the series began with Dr No in 1962; every film has featured its own song. Over decades the producers have switched between different performers and composers, although a few figures — notably composer John Barry and singer Shirley Bassey — returned to the role more than once.
How the next theme will be chosen is currently unclear. Daniel Craig left the 007 role after No Time To Die in 2021 and no replacement has been publicly confirmed. Meanwhile, Amazon MGM Studios now holds creative control, meaning the forthcoming Bond picture will be the first to move forward without the creative stewardship of Eon Productions — the company long involved in deciding elements such as who writes or sings the theme.
Gallagher’s remark taps into a wider conversation about the cultural ownership of Bond. The franchise has long used its opening music to announce a mood and a national flavour, and a British songwriter on the next title track would be a nod to that tradition.
For now, it’s waiting game. But if producers want a recognisable voice with plenty of pop-culture cachet, Noel Gallagher made it plain he would be willing.
